Program

Dear Colleagues,

After an enforced break in 2021, it is a great pleasure to invite you in Thun for the 19th annual congress and to celebrate the 20 years of the STS.

The program of annual meeting on January 27 and 28, 2022 concentrates on issues which are relevant for transplant recipients and for transplant specialists.

Desensitisation is a hot topic with new concepts trying to address unmet needs and a session dedicated to this issue should generate ideas for a swiss approach to hypersensitized recipients. The first key note lecture will reflect on the Covid pandemic and the lessons learned while a session called transplantation in Covid time will discuss our “new normal” with positive donors and positive recipients. The Covid pandemic forced on us new creative ways to care for the transplant recipients. The Astellas’ sponsored symposium will touch on the virtual outpatient clinic integrating the nursing and patients’ point of view.

Across all organ transplantations we are confronted with increasingly challenging comorbidities in donors and recipients. Thus, a session will be dedicated to optimizing organ allocation and exploring the best donor recipient constellation. The second keynote lecture will concentrate on the kidney paired donation program which has been officially launched in Switzerland in 2019 shortly before the Covid pandemic started. Despite the odds the program has been kept active and it is the perfect moment to reflect on its limitations and the solutions. Finally, we would like to encourage you to stay on the Friday afternoon and learn about the clinical projects around transplantation across all organs in Switzerland.

Last but not least, don’t miss the coordinators’ corner with a program elaborated by the STDA, the STS Excellence and Innovation awards as well as the STS awards after the presentation of the 6 highest ranking papers selected.

The Board of the Society, the scientific committee and myself look forward to welcome you in Thun. Come and join us for interesting discussions and networking!

Dr Isabelle Binet
President of the STS
